What Do Eyewear Measurements Actually Mean? Size matters?

The Capo Journal · Fit Guide

The numbers printed inside your temple aren't decoration. They're the anatomy of a perfect fit.

At Di Capo, our frames are designed to adapt beautifully to most faces. But if you want to go one step further — as any true capo would — knowing your measurements can turn a good fit into a perfect one.

The anatomy

The three key numbers

When you see something like 50–20–145, you're looking at the anatomy of the frame:

  • 50 mm — lens width: the width of one lens
  • 20 mm — bridge width: the distance between the lenses
  • 145 mm — temple length: the length of the arms, from hinge to tip

These three define how your glasses sit, feel, and look on you.

Find your size

How do you know your size?

If you already have a pair that fits well, check the inside of the arm. You'll likely see three numbers like the ones above — that's your size reference. But if you don't have one, use the credit card trick.

The credit card trick

Grab any standard credit card. Stand in front of a mirror, hold the card vertically aligning one edge with the centre of your nose, and see where the outer edge lands relative to your eye:

Where the card ends Your frame size
Ends at the edge of your eye Medium — standard, fits most Di Capo frames
Goes past the edge of your eye Small — opt for narrower frames
Falls short of your eye's edge Large — choose wider frames

It's not scientific, but it works surprisingly well — and takes 10 seconds.

“Elegance should feel natural, effortless, yours.”
